Awhile back I ran across this gem of wisdom from Albert Einstein: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” This got my wheels spinning!
Of course, we would never expect a fish to climb a tree, or even think it was failing in some way because it couldn't.
And yet, we, as a general human population, are not so gentle or understanding with ourselves and our own limitations.
Growing up I was inspired by the Dr. Seuss classic, Oh, the Places You'll Go! and still love its timeless message. If I were to write a Dr. Seuss-style book on stories, it would be titled something like "Ahhh...the Stories We Tell Ourselves and the Places They Land Us."
